Social Ineptness (6 Comments)

Filed under: Life — The Spider Herself @ 3:43 pm

This week, due to a number of foreseen and unforeseen circumstances, I have the pleasure of seeing one friend every day from last Friday to this Friday.  It started out as rather amusing and we would joke “what is happening tomorrow?” as we parted innocently thinking there was nothing tomorrow.  Then, out of the woodwork, there came another event that we had either forgotten about or was planned last minute.  Which brings up a dilemma that only the women out there will understand- we are running out of fresh things to wear that the other has not seen yet this week.  Now, if it was a man- he wouldn’t notice and it would be fine to sneak in an outfit twice (or more) in the week.  But another woman?  This is heavy stuff!  We are stay at home, homeschooling Moms- we don’t have an extensive wardrobe to choose from.  Plus there are certain things I simply refuse to wear to events like Sports at the Gym.  Things like pencil skirts and heels.  Except for Church on Sunday these events are of the more casual nature.

What this is leading up to is a question.

What must I do to remedy this sorry situation?

A. Expand my social circles so I don’t see this friend so much.

B.  Stop being such a social butterfly.

C.  Buy more clothes!

D.  Forget it!  Wear the same thing all the time!

E.  All of the above.

F.  A, B, and C.

What do you all think?  I am off now to scrounge through my closet to find something new and interesting to wear tonight.

  1. The only logical answer would be C of course. Let me explain why.

You see A requires a lot of hard work. You have to intentionally try to be at different places and make effort to meet these potential friends. It tires me just thinking about it.

And B would be working in reverse. We’ve come so far to get you out of the house, why regress?

D is doable with your closet of such trendy clothing. We like them enough to see them again and again. But it still isn’t as fun as C!

So in the end C is really your answer. Enjoy your shopping and I look forward to seeing what “interesting” outfit you will pull together for tonight. =)

  2. My first impulse is to agree with Lindsey — because it’s so much fun to have new stuff to wear — but finding clothes that fit?! Oh, geez. That’s a project that (almost) rivals the project of meeting/making new friends.

So, the heck with it. Go with D.

  3. It’s likely that this homeschooling mom is also in the same boat you’re in. It’s also likely, (if it’s who I think it is 🙂 that she loves you even if you wear the same thing every single day. I suggest you and your friend designate a Monday/Thursday outfit, a Tuesday/Friday outfit and a Wednesday/Saturday outfit for each of you. That way you only have to alternate between 3 casual outfits and one dressier one for church. Both of you will be repeating your clothing choices on the same days so there’s no awkward feelings and you’ll save on laundry. 🙂

  4. Hahaha… These comments have been just as entertaining as the blog post! What I hate is going to meet a friend whom i only see about once a month and realizing only once i’m in the car that I most likely wore the same outfit for the last meeting (because it’s the only outfit I think I look good in)… Therefore, Charlyn, at least u have 7 outfits and get to see ur friends more often 😉
